CAROB

ABOUT

The Carob Tree is a plant which is mainly grown for its green legumes, measuring approximately 20 centimetres in length. The legumes will turn brown and hard once they have been dried. The flesh is very dry and stringy, with a sweet taste. Carob is given to children as a treat in the countries where it’s grown, a little bit like liquorice. It’s also used as an ingredient for surrogate chocolate and coffee.

PREPARATION

Carob can be eaten raw. Carob can also be boiled for some time, after which the boiled water can be drunk as tea. Carob can be stored in a dry, cool place for several weeks.
