ABOUT

The coconut is a fruit of the coconut palm. The coconut starts off as green and subsequently turns brown, after which the fruit gets its thick shell. The nut can be opened by piercing a hole in one of the three black eyes. The flesh tastes sweet. The coconut water can instantly be drunk and the flesh can be eaten raw. A young coconut has a green rather than a brown shell. Green coconuts contain a great deal more coconut water than the brown coconut.

PREPARATION

Use a drill or screwdriver and hammer to pierce a hole in one of the three eyes. The coconut water which comes out can immediately be drunk. The nut can be completely broken open once the coconut water has drained out of the coconut. Use a sharp knife to cut the flesh away from the skin. The flesh can be eaten raw, but can also be cooked or turned into coconut milk. The coconut can be stored for several months if unopened. Coconuts can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days after opening.
