PASSION FRUIT

ABOUT

The passion fruit comes from the passion flower, just like the grenadilla and maracuja. The hard skin is brown-purple to red-brown in colour. The flesh is light yellow-white and jelly-like, with black edible seeds. The fruit has a refreshing and sweet flavour.

PREPARATION

A passion fruit is ripe once it’s a little wrinkled or dented. Fruits with a smooth skin are ripe too, but will taste less sweet. Unripe fruits are best ripened at room temperature. The passion fruit can be eaten by cutting the fruit through the centre and scooping it out. The passion fruit also does well in fruit salads. The skin is not edible.
