POMELO

ABOUT

The pomelo is related to the grapefruit and is the largest citrus fruit. The skin is thick and smooth and green/yellow in colour. The flesh is white and juicy. The fruit has a bitter sour taste, but less sour than a grapefruit.

PREPARATION

A pomelo is ripe when the skin is a beautiful yellow. Fruits with green skin are not yet ripe. These will ripen well at room temperature. The pomelo can be eaten fresh or can be made into juice. The pomelo can be scooped out by cutting through the centre and cutting into the segments of flesh with a sharp knife. The skin is not edible, but is very suitable for use in preserves.
