YELLOW PITYAHAYA

ABOUT

The pitahaya is also known as the dragon fruit. It’s related to the cactus family. The fruit has an oval shape with some long protrusions. The skin is yellow with bulges. The flesh is white with innumerable small black edible seeds. The fruit has a sweet flavour, sweeter than the red pitahaya and tastes a little like a melon.

PREPARATION

A pitahaya is ripe when it feels soft to the touch. Unripe fruits can be ripened at room temperature. Ripe fruits should preferably be stored in the fridge. The pitahaya can be eaten by cutting the fruit through the centre and scooping it out. The pitahaya can also be cut into slices. The skin is not edible.
